Microsoft Media and Entertainment Global Partner Conference

Microsoft's Media and Entertainment Global Partner Conference took place over February 7, 8 and 9th in Bellevue, Washington.  This conference was hosted by Microsoft Corporate and M&E vice presidents Maria Martinez and Kimberley Till and Senior M&E Director David AlstadterBlair Westlake, Corporate Vice President of the Microsoft M&E Technology Convergence Group gave one of two keynote addresses.

A major goal of the conference was to elevate Microsoft's interaction with business to business-oriented software and service partners as part of an integrated strategy for supporting Microsoft's enormous investment in the success of Windows Media Player 10 in the marketplace.  Microsoft may now be realizing that leaving broadcasting, publishing, music, film and advertising business systems infrastructure to SAP, Oracle, Seibel and IBM is a mistake from which there is no recovery.

A highlight of the conference was a four hour "trade show" at the Columbia Winery in which 27 Microsoft Partners were each given a mini booth in which to promote their wares to their fellow exhibitors, other attendees and Microsoft M&E managers, who were well represented.  Long time Jaguar business friends North Plains (digital asset management), Xytech (post production business systems), Hollywood Software (theatrical distribution business systems), TCS (systems integration) and Blue Order (digital delivery) participated in this event.

Other conference highlights included a tour of Microsoft Studios, an impressive use of Microsoft and partner technologies to produce and broadcast marketing and media content; and a series of presentations:

Service Provider Licensing Program (software rental offerings through Partners)
SQL Server and Visual Studio 2005
Windows Media Center Opportunities
Connected Services Framework (web services linking multiple database and accounting systems)
Windows Media Player/Server Digital Rights Management

I would like to thank Nancy Narraway, Anna Liu, Mary Crebassa and their team for assembling a spectacularly successful conference.  We trust that establishment of the Worldwide Media and Entertainment Group represents a watershed event in expanding the support Jaguar receives from its largest technical partner.
