System 7
Preview Highlights
On Friday, 28 April, Jaguar's 32 seat
Training Room was packed with 40 attendees for the first official
unveiling of System 7 Universal Rights
Management. What is all of the fuss about?
The best way to find out is to visit our
brand new System 7 Preview slide show on Jaguar's website. Simply press http://www.jaguartc.com/s7promo
and you will be magically transported to a quick presentation that will
tell you far more than any amount of writing here could hope to
accomplish. Additionally, on the website under NEWS, the April Jaguar
News features a write up on the goals and features of System 7 as well.
Many thanks to Dan
Hickok, Vice President New Technology, for his eloquent
presentation of the fabulous opportunity that System 7 presents for the
creators and distributors of intellectual property of all kinds to
revolutionize the way they do business.

FAME Fun
Many thanks to the fine folks at FAME in
Entertainment for giving Jaguar the opportunity to publicly present its
unique real world experiences relating to New Media Rights and
Royalties. A lively crowd of 75 entertainment financial and
administrative professionals managed to get together at the ungodly hour
of 8:00 AM for a breakfast meeting at the lovely Hollywood Roosevelt
Hotel.
This issue is just now getting serious
attention from the people who sell and administer licensing contracts
within the film and television industry. Industry leading Jaguar clients
such as Atom Films and Discovery Communications are setting new
standards that deserve the attention of the entire industry.
Jaguar would particularly like to thank Tom
Rochefort, Dan Taay and David
Belson for their support and inspiration in putting this
special event together. Jaguar has been an active member of FAME for
over 10 years. We look forward to helping out again next year!

Royalty
Management Benefits
Video Distribution, Merchandise Licensing
Every so often, it is important to step
back and take the time to remind ourselves why integrated contract
administration and accounting systems are so valuable to the companies
that invest in them. The huge data flows and complex contractual
arrangements of Royalty Management clients such as Children’s
Television Workshop and the NBA
make many of the following benefits into “must have” requirements
for their organizational survival.
The following is extracted from the
Software section of http://www.jaguartc.com.
The complete version can be found under a sunburst-style button labeled
“Benefits” on the Jaguar Office module summary page.
Revenue
- Enable the effective administration of
more complex and profitable agreements (sales tiers,
cross-collateralization)
- Increase royalty collections by
instantly identifying licensee calculation errors (common with sales
tiers).
- Track and collect post-contract
execution guarantee add-ons.
- Distribution channels can be used to
differentiate royalty rate by mass marketers, mail order, specialty
store and every other conceivable distribution channel that merits
distinction.
Sales Management
- Strengthen negotiating positions
through access to detailed historical performance information.
- Product managers will have consistent
quarterly and (potentially) monthly accurate financial updates on
licensee performance. The monthly approach will alert product
managers that certain licensees are not meeting their projections,
allowing time to make changes to their marketing and product
development activities.
- Performance and trend analysis
including sales by licensee, product category, property and
territory to help recreate successful licensing programs and design
aggressive campaigns to address periods of weak sales.
- Receive management reports on timely
basis.
- Product managers have instantaneous
access to licensee financial, product and category information.
Administration
- Automate tracking of contract begin
and end dates, renewal and other contractual options.
- Improve management productivity by
enabling subordinates to administrate effectively.
- Automatically generate Royalty
Delinquent Notices.
- Earnings to date and advance/guarantee
position on a contract available at any time.
- Concentrate on the analytical aspect
of agent/licensee profit or loss statements, not data gathering.
Budgeting
- Royalty budgeting on the group and
property level.
- Budget, Budget Revisions and Budget to
Actual /Variance reports.
- Reduce the variance in budget vs.
actual numbers with accurate system generated data
Accounting
- Track licensee sales projections to
produce more accurate budgets.
- Eliminate time consuming manual GL
coding for royalties and other revenues.
- Automatically generate revenue G/L
entries for export to corporate accounting system.
- Know the financial impact of foreign
currency contracts.
