System7
Seminar 1 December
System7
Universal Rights Management is progressing rapidly toward its
26 February 2001 Official Release.
Three years of development have resulted in an intellectual property
contract rights management and finance system that is ready to take the
world’s largest licensing organizations to a new level of
responsiveness, efficiency and profitability. The huge potential of Digital
Delivery, Digital Asset Management
and e-Commerce demand that 100% of
an organization’s rights availability and contractual restriction
information be made instantly available throughout the enterprise.
System7 meets that challenge!
The first unveiling of this
groundbreaking system by Randy Johnson,
Jaguar founder and CEO, and the System7
Development Team will take place Friday, 1 December at Jaguar’s
headquarters in Pasadena, California.
A complete demonstration of the Beta 2 release will be presented.
Seating is limited, so early registration is a must to guarantee your
participation. An event not to be missed!

System7
Vision Statement
Film -
Television - Publishing - Merchandise - Music
Patents - Syndication - e-Commerce - Participations
System7
Universal Rights Management is an all new Jaguar Consulting
design aimed squarely at the explosion of intellectual property
licensing opportunities fueled by the arrival of the Digital Age. In 1998,
Jaguar Consulting combined forces with four industry leaders, Hallmark
Entertainment, NBA, National
Geographic Society and Sesame
Workshop to break new ground in rights management systems by
completely rethinking their traditional business processes to take
maximum advantage of emerging technologies. Together we have created a
truly enterprise wide contract administration and finance system that
provides convenient worldwide access and a powerful platform for future
business evolution.
The primary
design goal was to provide sufficient flexibility to
successfully handle every type of contract in an organization. To that
end Jaguar’s industry leading Release 5.5 architecture has been
dramatically simplified to use a single customizable entry point to
store all acquisition, development, production,
in-house use, customer bid, distribution, syndication, subdistributor,
royalty and advertising
agreements in one set of exceptionally configurable tables. The
experience for the user is one of a powerful central control where
everything is just a button click away.
The result is
confidence, comfort and involvement for everyone from
super-users to the most casual acquaintance of the system. In addition
to efficient wide area networking, web-based queries enable secure
Internet access by branch offices and business travelers around the
world. Industry standard software and database technologies make linking
important external systems (ERP, digital asset
management, MAPI email, digital delivery, e-commerce…) a
practical and reliable way to integrate islands of information to
produce anything from the grandest to the most granular view of critical
activities.
The most
important priority of the technical plan for System7 is to
provide the underpinnings to make it outstandingly adaptable,
supportable and durable. Jaguar’s 15 years of mission critical systems
experience played a key role in the decision to invest 18 months in the
creation of a state of the art development framework. This forward
looking software structure ensures that System7 will continue
to efficiently meet our clients evolving needs for many years to come.
The framework’s object-oriented, loosely coupled, n-tier structure
provides important flexibility to connect to virtually any user
interface or database product with minimal effort. The
loosely coupled design allows Jaguar to easily replace any tier as new
and better products become available without reengineering the
other tiers. An example of this interchangeability is Jaguar's planned
introduction of Oracle 8i as an
optional database. Like its predecessors,
System7 continues the proven synergy of a single system
version that continuously benefits from the consolidation and release of
client and Jaguar sponsored software development projects.
System7
defines a higher standard for enterprise systems. The basic
ability to reliably handle hundreds of operators and millions of
contracts is transcended to provide a superb flexibility that naturally
pulls its queries, drill downs, exports and reports into the working
lives of every possible user in the organization, as they make System7
their own personal assistant.

Southern
Star Group - Customization Makes the Difference
Southern Star
is one of Australia’s largest production and television distribution
organizations. Over the past year, Marie
Bastoli, Director of Information Services, has spearheaded a
well-coordinated effort to fine tune their Jaguar Release 5.5 system to
better serve their unique and innovative operation. Jaguar News asked
Marie to pick out some of her favorite system modifications and talk
about their highlights.
Add G/L Subset
field to Title Table (Service
Item # 6762, Release
5.51.02) “This allowed us to link the title codes in Platinum with
Jaguar. We keep all of our cost information for titles in Platinum (eg.
Sales Servicing Costs).”
New function to
acknowledge Action Items by calendar (action) date (SI# 6763,
R5.51.02) “This modification turned a very long manual task into a
quick one. In doing so, it also reduced the risk of errors.”
Add sales tax
code to sales contracts (SI# 6764, R5.51.02) “This helps us
greatly with 2 different companies in 2 different countries dealing with
the same customer.”
Company to
Company G/L Transfer in Jaguar w/currency conversion (SI#
6935, R5.51.02) “One of the aims of the implementation was to
integrate the accounting for Primetime and have it all done in Sydney.
Previously, Primetime accounting was done in London. This mod allowed us
to have 2 Jaguar companies with different Primary currencies and be able
to bring the data together.”
Add Title Phase
as a limit to the Title Pick List for the Availability Report
(SI# 7314, R5.51.04) “This allowed us to have title codes set up just
for accounting purposes that sales executives should never see. It saves
lots of confusion.”
Add new fields
to the Title Table (SI# 7856, R5.51.05) “This enabled us to
keep all the data we need on a title in one place. We plan to link it to
a future web site that has our catalog on it.”
Upload G/L
Voucher Journal from Excel (SI# 7337, R.5.51.04) “This has
proved to be a fantastic modification for us that is used constantly!”
Editor's Note: The
following two modifications, considered to be unique to Southern Star’s
situation, were installed with a special data flag designed to make
other clients’ exposure to the new functionality strictly optional.
Calculate,
journal, post & print participant commissions in a manner similar to
that for producer commissions (SI# 7231, R5.51.04) “This is
similar to [SI #6723] and does commission calculations when a third
party has an interest in commission. A large number of titles in the
company that we acquired (Primetime) had this requirement. This allows
reports to the third party to be written and adjusts our Gross Margin.”
Statement of
Gross Receipts and Commission Payments - Calculate, post and print
Commission Statements (SI# 6723, R.5.51.04) “This is by far
the most important modification! We could not have implemented
accounting without it. Much credit goes to the many phone calls with Randy
Johnson and Greg Stadler
brainstorming how we could achieve this. The system we were replacing
calculated commissions, so we would be going backwards without it
(although it had lots of limitations in it we needed to work around).
This modification enabled us to have reports written using SQL/Crystal
Reports for our Producer Statements. The reports gather
information from our corporate financials (Platinum) as well as Jaguar,
and also calculate our Gross Margin for us.”
For Jaguar and our other clients, the
most exciting thing about these modifications is that they, without
exception, are either included in the current Release
5.51.03 or will become part of future quarterly releases.
Before downloading each quarterly release from www.jaguartc.com,
clients are provided with a System Changes Report which gives them the
opportunity to review any detailed Software Modification Specification
document on-line that they are interested in. The instant availability
of complete information, including the business use case, ensures that
they have the best possible opportunity to take maximum advantage of the
new features.
Congratulations to Marie, Katherine
Griffiths and their outstanding team in Sydney!
Implementing a system that works just as well in London and New Zealand
requires insight, dedication and resourcefulness.
The accelerating success of Southern Star’s
project demonstrates that the combination of written specification
documentation, a standardized software package, Internet-driven
communications and positive client leadership make software development
collaboration practical anywhere in the world
today.
